Well, Spring has now got well underway - great if you want to see birds, beasts and butterflies perhaps, but fungi have been rather hard to find this year. The very cold weather at the beginning of the year seems to have made everything arrive a little late, if at all!
Our first two forays were hard work to say the least but with one or two interesting finds despite the overall dryness. The last Spring outing is on 19th June south of Abergavenny - if anyone out there wants to join us for that event please get in touch beforehand.
On 22nd May we forayed as planned but did not realise beforehand, whilst booking the dates, that this would actually be the International Biodiversity Day! How about that! We did our bit for biodiversity by recording the fungi we found but one of the highlights was George finding a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers feeding their young in a dead beech tree! Wow - that really was special!
The dates for your Autumn forays in 2010 will be as follows:
Saturday 18th September Tuesday 12th October Tuesday 26th October Saturday 13th November
Whilst we can accomodate the odd visitor who wishes to come along and join us we would appreciate it if they could let us know beforehand so we know to expect them and can give full meeting details. This is to ensure that we are fully covered by our Public Liability Insurance and of course in some cases the sites we visit cannot accomodate extra visitors.
